Sparks leads HU trackwomen at Taylor invite

Christine Sparks led the Huntington University women's track and field team with two top five finishes at the Taylor University Indoor Track and Field Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1.
Sparks ran a fourth-place time of 5:26.14 in the mile, nearly six seconds faster than her previous personal record, to move from sixth to fourth in the Forester record books. She also picked up fifth in the 800-meters run with a time of 2:31.16.
Heather Johnson topped her previous best in the pole vault with a leap of 9-9.25 to land seventh, as did Brianna Gregory in long jump. The sophomore's jump of 15-8.75 found its way into the record books as the eighth-farthest leap in program history.
The distance medley team of Hannah Moore, Kim Elser, Gretchen Spahr and Krista Wood took second with a time of 14:04.44.
Other top 10 finishes for the women included Hannah Moore in the 3,000 meters, fifth in 11:16.34; Natalie Spahr in the 5,000 meters, fourth in 21:00.36; and Miranda Boyts in the 5,000 meters, fifth in 21:10.38.
