HU women fifth at Joe Banks Invite

The Huntington University women's track and field team took fifth at the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Hannah Moore shaved 20 seconds off her personal record in the 5,000-meter run to claim the Foresters' only top finish. She clocked in at 19:04.24 to move up two spots into third in the Forester record books.

Alyssa Haselby also logged a personal best, in the 60-meter dash, where she finished third in :8.33.

Christine Sparks picked up a third and fourth in the mile and the 800-meter run, respectively, crossing the finish line in 5:21.74 and 2:26.51, posting personal records in both events.

The Foresters earned 10 points in the 1,000-meter run, where Erin Rockey claimed second in 3:18.16 and Gretchen Spahr took seventh in 3:28.84.

In relay action, the Huntington team of Haselby, Darion Caldwell, Shana Christian and Brianna Gregory took third in the 800 in 1:52.75 while Gretchen Spahr, Moore, Krista Wood and Rockey teamed up in the distance medley relay to finish second in 13:37.85.

Other Forester point-getters included Natalie Spahr in the 500-meter dash, fourth in 1:36.82, and in the 5,000-meter run, sixth in 21:12.55; Rosie Ditzler in the 500 meters, fifth in 1:38.79; Heather Johnson in pole vault, fifth in 9-0.25; Gregory in long jump, fifth in 14-11.5; Ashley Williams in shot put, sixth in 33-3.75, and weight throw, eighth in a PR 40-8.25; and Korisa Kitts in shot put, seventh in a PR 33-3..

Ohio Northern ran away with the title with 165.50 points, followed by Otterbein's 108, Wittenberg's 92, Heidelberg's 87, Huntington's 82, Capital's 68, Defiance's 49, Bluffton's 23.50 and Rose-Hulman's 23.
