Lady Eagles wrap up best regular season at 18-4

The Huntington Lady Eagles girls' varsity basketball team ended its regular season with two wins on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Salamonie Elementary School, in Warren.

The victories move the Lady Eagles to 18-4 on the season for the team's best-ever regular season record.

Game one featured two top 25 teams in the National Homeschool Rankings, pitting No. 21 Huntington against the No. 25 CHAP Chariots from East Lansing, MI. The Chariots entered the contest with only one loss, from the Lady Eagles in the championship game of the Fort Wayne Guard Tournament earlier this season.

Huntington led by one at the end of the first quarter but found itself down by eight at the half. Although the Lady Eagles started gaining momentum in the third quarter, they still trailed by nine after three periods.

In the final frame, however, Huntington pulled off the comeback, going on a 16-5 run to pull out a 39-37 win.

Catherine Weaver led all scorers with 19 points, while Erin Sickafoose added 11, seven of them coming in the second half.

The second game pitted Huntington against the Fort Wayne Hurricanes, with the Lady Eagles taking control early to cruise to a 46-21 victory.

Huntington was led by Weaver with 18 points. Ballinger had 13 points and Sickafoose added eight.
