Snyder, Carpenter pace Lady Vike gymnasts to 3rd at Marion

Carly Snyder placed fourth and Mikayla Carpenter took eighth in the all-around to lead the Huntington North High School varsity gymnastics team to third place out of 11 teams at the Marion Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 15.
The Lady Vikes turned in the top team performance on floor exercise on the way to a total of 97.675 points. Fort Wayne Northrop won the meet with 99.20 points and Homestead was runner-up with 97.875 points.
Snyder, a sophomore, compiled 33.625 points and Carpenter, a senior, totalled 32.700 for their pair of top-10 finishes in the all-around.
Snyder scored an 8.750 in vault to place in a three-way tie for sixth with teammates Carpenter and Alexa Shoemaker. She scored an 8.700 on floor to place in a tie for fourth, an 8.375 on balance beam for a sixth-place tie and a 7.800 for uneven bars for seventh place.
Carpenter had her best score of 8.700 on both beam and vault, placing third on the former and eighth on the latter. She scored an 8.150 on the floor to place 10th and had a 7.150 on bars to place 17th.
Erica Freise had a 7.900 on bars to place sixth for the remaining top-10 HNHS finish.
