HU women bowlers in top third at weekend tourney

The Huntington University women's bowling team claimed 20th at the 64-team Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic at Western Bowl, in Indianapolis, on Saturday, Feb. 15, and Sunday, Feb. 16.

Huntington got off to a slow start, dipping as low as 41st before climbing back up to 20th with 7,889 pins. Ranked 25th going into the weekend, the Foresters averaged 876 per game and beat eight teams ranked above them.

Ayla Yeiter led Huntington by finishing 35th out of 415 bowlers with a nine-game average of 186.3. Close behind was Shelby New, who posted a 185.5 average to place 39th.

Other bowlers included Emerald Leong, Brooke Ewing and Emily O'Leary with seven-game averages of 170.6, 161.7 and 159.1, respectively. Casandra Griffith's six-game average of 183.67 rounded out the team.
