Snyder leads HNHS gymnasts past Wawasee

Carly Snyder won two events on the way to claiming the all-around title, leading the Huntington North High School varsity gymnastics team over visiting Wawasee, 99.150-95.350, on Thursday, Feb. 20.

Snyder, a sophomore, topped vault with an 8.800 and balance beam with a 9.000, while earning runner-up honors on the uneven parallel bars and in the floor exercise, posting a 7.875 and an 8.800, respectively, to triumph in the all-around with a register of 34.475.

Erica Freise took top honors on bars with an 8.325. The junior also placed fourth on floor with a 7.850 and fifth on vault with an 8.400, on the way to finishing fifth in the all-around with a tally of 29.775.

Senior Alexa Shoemaker captured third in the all-around with a score of 31.350, taking third on floor with an 8.675 and a pair of fifths on vault and beam with an 8.400 and a 7.300, respectively.

Mikayla Carpenter, a senior, achieved third on beam with an 8.100, fourth on vault with an 8.500 and fifth on bars with a 7.250 to round out the Lady Vikings' place-getters.

Huntington North lost the junior varsity meet, 61.250-58.800.

Sophomore Molly Smith attained first on beam with a 7.500, along with second on bars, third on floor and fifth on vault to top the all-around with a mark of 28.100. Meriah Harrison, a freshman, supplemented Smith's showing by taking first on bars with a 6.400, third on vault and fourth on floor for an all-around total of 24.400, good for second.
