HN gymnasts second in conference meet

The Huntington North High School varsity gymnastics team earned runner-up honors at the North Central Conference Championships, hosted by Logansport, on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The Lady Vikings compiled 98.250 points, finishing behind Logansport's 107.800. Marion slid into third with 97.550, followed by Richmond with 93.650 and Muncie Central with 92.400.

Carly Snyder strung together a series of top 10 finishes to take a team-best sixth in the all-around for Huntington North with a register of 33.650. The sophomore captured fifth on the balance beam and the uneven parallel bars with an 8.500 and an 8.100, respectively, while posting an 8.550 for sixth in the floor exercise and an 8.500 for eighth on vault.

Junior Erica Freise slotted right behind Snyder in the all-around, snatching seventh with a tally of 33.300. Freise attained fourth on bars with an 8.400, fifth on floor with an 8.800, ninth on vault with an 8.400 and 12th on beam with a 7.700.

Alexa Shoemaker finished seventh on vault with 8.500 on the way to grabbing 10th in the all-around with a total of 30.900. The senior also placed 10th on floor with an 8.000, 15th on bars with a 7.500 and 18th on beam with a 6.900.

Other place-getters for Coach Amanda Barton's squad were freshman Josie Graft with 12th on bars, 15th on vault and 17th on floor; sophomore Molly Smith with 16th on beam, 20th on floor and 23rd on vault; and senior Mikayla Carpenter with 19th on bars and 21st on beam.
