Snyder, Freise lead HN gymnasts past Wayne, South

Carly Snyder and Erica Freise helped the Huntington North High School varsity gymnastics team tally 95.150 points to beat host Fort Wayne Wayne and Fort Wayne South Side on Monday, Feb. 24.

Snyder, a sophomore, and Freise, a junior, each recorded a pair of top finishes to power the Lady Vikings past the Lady Generals' register of 71.200 and the Lady Archers' total of 55.750.

Snyder won vault with an 8.350 and balance beam with an 8.200 while Freise topped the uneven parallel bars with an 8.400 and the floor exercise with an 8.200.

On bars, Snyder was second with an 8.050 and was third on floor with an 8.000 to take the all-around title with a total of 32.600.

Freise rounded out her meet by earning runner-up honors on vault with an 8.250.

Senior Alexa Shoemaker claimed a silver spot on floor with an 8.100, a bronze placing on bars with a 7.250 and shared third with South Side's Mallory Weber on vault with a 7.900, helping her capture second in the all-around with 29.650 points.

Other place-getters for Coach Amanda Barton's squad were senior Mikayla Carpenter, who placed second on beam with an 8.050 and fourth on bars with a 6.750, and freshman Josie Graft, who took fourth on floor with a 7.550.

Huntington North dominated the junior varsity meet, 43.650 to 4.200 for Wayne.

Sophomore Molly Smith topped vault with a 7.500 and floor with a 6.450 on the way to winning the all-around title with 26.8 points. Freise managed a gold finish on beam with a 7.150, as did Graft on bars with a 6.200.
