Nash, Sparks set for NAIA Indoor championships
Saturday, March 1, 2014 7:48 AM
Jake Nash and Christine Sparks of the Huntington University men's and women's track and field teams, respectively, will be making their college debuts at the 2014 NAIA National Track and Field Indoor Championships set for March 6 to 8 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, OH.
Nash, a sophomore, punched his ticket in high jump on Feb. 1 at the Taylor University Indoor Invitational. Not only did his leap of 6-7 secure his spot at nationals, it also set a new school record. On Feb. 22, he topped his best by going 6-8 at the DePauw University Indoor Classic to establish himself as the 12th seed at nationals. He will compete Friday, March 7.
Sparks will be representing Huntington in the 1,000 meters. Running this race for the first time in her collegiate career, the freshman qualified on Feb. 22 at the DePauw Classic where she ran a 3:02.37, the second fastest time in Forester history. She enters the race as the 20th seed and will toe the line for the semis on Friday, March 7.
