Mettler leads Viking trackboys at New Haven

The Huntington North High School boys' varsity track and field team tied for seventh at the New Haven HSR Qualifier indoor meet held at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne on Saturday, March 8.

The Vikings tallied 29 points to deadlock with Leo in the 15-team field in which the top eight places in each event scored.

Senior Charles Mettler posted Huntington North's best finish on the day, winning the 3,200-meter run in 9:55.78. Senior Luke Doughty clocked-in at 10:19.40 to take fourth.

Junior Adam Woods produced points for Coach Scott Bower's squad in two field events, capturing fifth in pole vault with a mark of 11-06 and seventh in high jump with a leap of 5-09.

Junior Drew Fawcett rounded out the Vikings' points in individual events with a seventh place bound in long jump of 19-01.

The 3,200-meter relay team finished fifth in 9:08.87 while the 800-meter relay and distance medley squads both grabbed eighth, in 3:57.17 and 12:24.04, respectively, to complete Huntington North's register.

Carroll won the meet with 70 points. Northrop compiled 62 points to earn runner-up honors, followed by Bishop Dwenger's 58, Wayne's 49 and North Side's 34.
