Viking trackboys come up short to Marion

Charlie Mettler earned a solo first place and one as part of a relay team but the Huntington North High School boys' varsity track team came up a little short in a 70-62 loss to visiting Marion on Wednesday, April 23.

Mettler and teammate Luke Doughty went 1-2 in the 800-meter run, respectively, with Mettler clocking in at 2:03.4 for the win. The pair also joined with fellow seniors Ian Yaste and Collin Wesco to win the 3,200-meter relay, in 8:42.3.

The Vikings got wins in four of the five field events, including a sweep in the shot put. Neal Layne threw the ball 43-05.50 to edge teammate Colt Ropp by a quarter-inch, with Jared Coolman taking third.

Houston Lehman led a 1-2 finish in the pole vault at a height of 12-0 to beat teammate Adam Woods, and the pair went 2-3, respectively, in the high jump, with Lehman going 6-0.

Ropp got the remaining field win with a heave of 128-05 in the discus.

Austin Lange was also a winner for HNHS, leading teammate Dustin Campbell to a 1-2 placing in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:56.7.

Jordan Utter paced second and Isaac Smith took third in the 400-meter dash, and Andrew Sizemore was runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles.

Other points for HNHS were earned by Jake Shaw taking third in the 100-meter dash, Drew Fawcett placing third in the 200-meter dash and Cody Jones getting bronze in the 1,600-meter run.
