Viking trackboys get second at Muncie Central Relays

Getting one win and seven runner-up finishes pushed the Huntington North High school boys' track team to second place at the Muncie Central Relays on Saturday, April 26.

The Viking quartet of Jake Shaw, Jordan Utter, Isaac Smith and Collin Wesco went 8:38.11 to cruise to the victory in the 3,200-meter relay, helping HNHS pile up 98 points in Class A, just five points behind champion Kokomo.

Houston Lehman made the biggest leap - somewhat literally - for the Viking runners-up, sailing 14-0 in the pole vault to move into second place in the all-time HNHS record books.

Charlie Mettler grabbed a pair of runner-up spots for the Vikes, going 4:34.73 for second in the 1,600-meter run and then adding a 9:48.84 for runner-up in the 3,200-meter run.

Colt Ropp added second in the shot with a throw of 44-0.75 and Adam Woods got second in the high jump at 5-10, with Lehman taking third. The Vikes also got second from their 400-meter relay team of Andrew Sizemore, Smith, Drew Fawcett and Shaw.

Adam Woods placed third in the pole vault at 12-6, Drew Fawcett went 18-11.50 for third in the long jump and the Vikings also got thirds from the 1600-meter and distance medley relay teams.
The 1,600 team was made up of Shaw, Sizemore, Smith and Utter and went 3:33, and the distance medley team was Lucas Long, Cam Dewitt, Christian Jones and Austin Lange, and went 11:41.75.

Ropp added fourth place points for HNHS in the discus throw, while Luke Doughty took fifth in the 3,200 and sixth in the 1,600. Sizemore took sixth in the 300-meter hurdles.
