Hiple's two blasts help lead HNHS to rout of Marion

Alyssa Hiple smacked a pair of home runs to lead the Huntington North High School varsity softball team in a 26-0 rout of host Marion on Wednesday, May 7.

Hiple, a senior, leads the Lady Vikings with seven long balls on the season and finished the contest with five runs batted in on three hits, with four runs scored.

Coach Paris Seibold's squad, 15-5, racked up 26 hits, with seniors Kaylynn Rosen and Makayla Whaley and freshman Ariene Butler supplying three apiece.

Tori Newsome tossed two perfect innings to earn the win for Huntington North, which provided the senior hurler with five runs in the first frame and 10 more in the second. Freshman Hannah Middlebrooks held the Lady Giants to a single hit in three innings of relief, during which time the Lady Vikings tacked on another nine runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth before the game was called.

Newsome helped her cause in the circle by belting a homer and driving in three runs. Whaley, Rosen and junior Maddi Kennedy each finished with two RBI.
