Baker's 2 goals lead HU women to opening win

Senior Courtney Baker scored a pair of goals in a nine-minute span to lead the Huntington University women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over host Rochester College on Wednesday, Aug. 20, in the Forester's season-opening game.

Baker's scores turned a 1-0 Huntington deficit into an advantage that would stick as the Huntington defense went the final 87 minutes without yielding a score.

Forester goalie Paige Coolman, a former Huntington North star, posted seven saves to win her first collegiate effort.

Kailtyn Dreman was the catalyst for both HU goals, getting an assist on the first. At the 20-minute mark she threaded a pass through the Rochester defense to an open Baker for the tying goal, then eight minutes later she won the ball back and started the rush that netted Baker her second goal.

Brandi Spear and Rachel TerMarsch got assists on the second score.

HU managed 15 shots, eight on goal.
