Poor first half sinks HU booters

A poor first half sank the Huntington University men's soccer team against host Mount Vernon Nazarene in a 3-1 loss on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

The Foresters allowed the Cougars' trio of goals in the game's opening half. Coach Russ Lawson's squad managed to cut into the lead with a late penalty kick by sophomore Scott Murray, but it was all the offense Huntington could muster as it dropped to 3-8, 0-2 in the Crossroads League.

Mount Vernon took 10 shots on goal to Huntington's three, keeping Forester goalkeeper James Couchman busy. The sophomore finished with seven saves while allowing the three goals to take the loss.

Adam Miller and Jon Gerlach split goalkeeping duties for the Cougars, 7-3-1, 2-0 in conference, the former making two stops while the latter allowed Huntington's lone goal.
