Woods' score pushes Viking gridders past Anderson

Senior wingback Adam Woods rushed for 120 yards and broke a 7-7 tie in the third quarter with a 20-yard touchdown run as the Huntington North High School varsity football team edged host Anderson, 14-7, on Friday, Oct. 3.

Huntington North as a team rushed for almost 200 yards, with Woods gaining his yardage on 27 carries to help Coach Trent Fine's team improve to 3-4 on the season, 3-2 in the North Central Conference.

The defense got the scoring started for Huntington North when senior defensive back Houston Lehman grabbed an interception and returned it for a touchdown to give the Vikings a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.

A score by the Indians in the following frame set the stage for Woods' game-winning run.

Sophomore wingback Carson Wright ran for 46 yards on five carries while junior wingback Jack Doughty gained 29 yards on three attempts to round out Huntington North's rushing attack.

Wright was on the receiving end of sophomore Lucas Long's lone pass completion of the game. The quarterback had a quiet night, completing one of nine passes for five yards and an interception.

The Vikings finished with 198 yards on offense to 186 for the Indians, who fall to 2-5, 2-3 in the NCC.

Senior linebackers Brady Hill and Austin Tester, senior defensive back Lucas Johnson and junior defensive back Jackson Cain each logged three tackles for the Huntington North defense, which also got a sack apiece from Tester and senior linebacker Joe Bentz.
