Lady Vike spikers take Peru Invite championship

The Huntington North High School varsity volleyball team marched through four opponents to claim the Peru Invitational championship on Saturday, Oct. 4.

The Lady Vikings, 20-8 on the season, defeated the host school in the first round, 25-16, 21-25, 15-7, and blew through Twin Lakes, 25-11, 25-10 in the second round. They then crushed Tipton, 25-8, 25-13, in the third round before taking down Northwestern, 25-9, 25-27, in the fourth round for the championship.

Senior Dana Stoffel was the big stick on offense with 34 kills on the day. Kalee Platt added 23 kills, Allyson Mettler had 16 and Mackenzi Cannici added 13.

Alexa Hill piled up 89 assists on the day, and she, Brook Shoemaker and Ande Wygant each had five aces on the day. Hill added to that with five blocks and 18 digs on the defensive side as well.

Cannici was the top blocker with six, while Shoemaker was the top digger with 36, one more than Ariene Butler. Stoffel added 26 digs.

The Lady Vikings will host Warsaw on Monday, Oct. 6, in "Pink Out Night" for cancer awareness.
