Woods rushes for 187 yards, 3 TDs as Viking crush Giants, 63-7

Adam Woods rushed for 187 yards and three touchdowns as the Huntington North High School varsity football team routed host Marion, 63-7, on Friday, Oct. 10.

Woods, a senior, carried the ball 12 times and highlighted an offensive attack for the Vikings that piled up 428 yards and posted the highest point total of Head Coach Trent Fine's three years at the helm.

The Giants, 1-7, 0-6 in the North Central Conference, struck first, going up 7-0 early in the first quarter, but the Vikings turned the tide quickly. Huntington North led 21-7 after the first quarter and 35-7 at halftime before adding two touchdowns in each of the game's final two frames to improve to 4-4, 4-2 in NCC play.

Senior Alex Beal rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries while sophomore Carson Wright, junior Jack Doughty and sophomore Parker Thompson gained 29, 24 and 23 yards, respectively, with a score apiece to supplement Woods' work on the ground.

Other Viking touchdowns came courtesy of sophomore Seth Thompson, who hauled in a 28-yard scoring pass from junior Dakota Johnson, and senior Drew Fawcett, who returned a kickoff 86 yards for a score.

Senior Corbin Clarke made a team-high six tackles for the Huntington North defense, which recovered three fumbles and got a sack apiece from senior Joe Bentz and junior Logan McQuinn.
