Viking harrier Campbell advances to semi-state

Dustin Campbell will represent the Huntington North boys' cross country team at semi-state after placing 11th at the Marion Regional on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Campbell, a senior, crossed the finish line at the Indiana Wesleyan University cross country course in 17 minutes flat to earn a spot among the top 10 individuals from non-advancing teams, who all move on to semi-state.

Other Viking runners at the regional were sophomore Cody Jones and freshmen Hale Bowen and Nolan Young. Jones finished 51st in 18:16.3 while Bowen took 66th in 18:35.6 and Young attained 87th in 19:23.7.

Oak Hill and Northfield each tallied 91 points, with a tie-breaker giving the Golden Eagles the regional title. Bluffton was third with 99, followed by Bellmont and South Adams, with 105 and 110, respectively, rounding out the five semi-state qualifiers.

South Adams' Bailey McIntire was the race's individual champion, clocking in at 15:54.6.

The New Haven Semi-state is set for Saturday, Oct. 25, at the IPFW cross country course, in Fort Wayne.
