Lady Vike harriers earn seventh straight trip to state

The Huntington North High School girls' cross country team punched its ticket to the state finals with a fifth place finish at the New Haven Semi-state on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The Lady Vikings tallied 175 points at the meet, held at The Plex, in Fort Wayne, to secure its seventhconsecutive trip to the season's final race.

Junior Hannah Stoffel led the way for Coach Carrie Boxell's squad, clocking in at 19:17.56 to place 12th among team runners. Junior Marissa Jamison crossed the finish line in 20:15.95 to capture 30th with freshman Chloe Scheiber finishing four spots later, posting a time of 20:21.97. Senior Stephanie McElhaney seized 44th in 20:37.74 while fellow senior Emily Eherenman took 55th in 21:00.02 to cap the team's score.

Senior Taryn Doering grabbed 74th in 21:27.60 and sophomore Cadee Harmon attained 79th in 21:50.12, rounding out the team.

Penn won the semi-state title with a register of 42. Carroll was runner-up with 87 points, followed by Pendleton Heights with 110, Homestead with 165, Huntington North and Northridge, which took the sixth and final advancing spot to state with 180 points.

Mishawaka senior Anna Rohrer was the race's individual champion, crossing the end stripe in 17:34.85, which was over 30 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

The state finals are set for Saturday, Nov. 1, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, in Terre Haute, at 1 p.m.
