Pair of HU frosh on Crossroads League volleyball second team

The Crossroads League announced its 2014 volleyball all-conference teams on Monday, Nov. 17, and three players from Huntington University’s squad were among the list of honorees.

A pair of rookies topped the list for Huntington. Freshman middle blocker Josie Beaver paced the Foresters offensively and for her efforts received second team all-conference honors. She led the team in blocks with 131 and the conference in blocks per set, with 1.2. The former Huntington North standout also accumulated a team-best 219 kills to average 2.05 kills per set.

Joining Beaver on the second team was freshman Kate Cobb. The 5-6 libero established herself as one of the top defensive specialists in the league. Cobb tallied a team-high 581 digs to finish third among her Crossroads peers in digs per set, with 5.8. The Elkhart native also posted 12 serving aces and a .949 serving percentage on the year.

Rounding out the honorees was senior Brittany Rooze. A 5-9 left side hitter, Rooze finished second on the team in kills with 196 in addition to collecting 72 digs and 36 blocks to earn honorable mention accolades. Rooze hails from West Lafayette and received honorable mention honors as a freshman.

Huntington wrapped up the season with an overall record of 6-23.
