Schenkel continues winning ways but Canterbury clips HNHS swimgirls

Katie Schenkel continued her winning ways but the Huntington North High School girls' swim team was clipped, 85-82 by visiting Fort Wayne Canterbury on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

Schenkel, a senior, had a hand in four of the six HNHS wins on the evening, capturing the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke as well as swimming legs on the victorious 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams. Schenkel took the IM in 2:31.06 as she and Maggie Warpup went 1-2 for the best Lady Viking finish of the meet. She came back to win the breaststroke in 1:15.37.

Samantha McCann won the 200-yard freestyle and Emma Helmich won the 100-yard freestyle for the other HNHS solo wins. McCann swam to victory in 2:22.36 and Helmich came home in 1:03.57 for the freestyle win.

Schenkel and Helmich teamed with Warpup and Alivia Eiting to take the medley relay in 2:09.33, and Warpup, Helmich, McCann and Schenkel went 4:18.32 to win the 400 free relay.

Eiting and Kaitlin Biehl went 2-3, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle. McCann and Emma Gordon took third and fourth, respectively, behind Schenkel in the breaststroke. Warpup added second place points in the 500-yard freestyle, and HNHS got a runner-up finish from its 200-yard freestyle relay team of McCann, Biehl, Lexi Miller and Eiting.
