HU cagers dispatch Grace Bible College

The Huntington University men’s basketball team dispatched visiting Grace Bible College, 78-66, on Saturday, Dec. 20.

The Foresters shot 54.5 percent in the opening stanza on 18 of 33 shooting to take a commanding 44-29 lead at halftime. Though Huntington’s shooting dipped to 33.3 percent in the second half on 11 of 33 marksmanship, it was still enough to give Coach Ty Platt’s squad a double-digit win, its 10th against three losses.

Daniel Woll logged a double-double for Huntington with a game-best 22 points and 10 rebounds. The sophomore also dished out a contest-high five assists.

Sophomore Derek Hinen added 18 points on 7 of 8 shooting while sophomore Kyle Pipenger supplied 10 points.

The Foresters finished 29 of 66 from the floor for 43.9 percent and 9 of 11 at the foul line for 84.6 percent.

Bernard Smith produced 17 points and 15 rebounds for Grace, 8-7. Jared Bradford contributed 13 points and Cameron Cramer chipped in 11.

The Tigers converted 22 of 61 field goals for 36.1 percent and 14 of 18 freebies for 75 percent.

BJ VanLoo pulled down 10 rebounds to supplement Smith’s efforts and give Grace a 46-34 edge on the glass.
