Tackett leads HNHS boys' bowling team to second title of season

The Huntington North High School boys' bowling team won its second invitational tournament of the season, defeating Mishawaka in the championship round in the Boone Grove Invitational in Hebron on Sunday, Dec. 6.

Huntington North defeated seven other teams to advance to the championship round against Mishawaka. In that round, the Vikings tied Mishawaka 169-all, but came back to win the second and third matches, with scores of 215-203 and 169-159 to win the tournament.

To get to the final match, the Vikings had to win three Baker-style matches after two regular games.

Huntington North began the day by rolling 818 the first game and 993 in the second. EJ Tackett had 215 in the first match and in the second game, Tackett had 259 and Connor Brown rolled 204.
After two regular games, all teams bowled three two-game Baker-style matches.

The Vikings won over Elkhart Memorial with Huntington scores of 227 and 167, Portage with scores of 212 and 198 and against Mishawaka 178 and 196.

After the Baker games, the top six teams advanced to the Baker-style championship bracket. The fourth-seeded Vikings started off the bracket by beating Michigan City 2-0, with scores of 211-169 and a clinch-ing 172-171. Lake Central, the top-ranked state team, was no match for Huntington North, as the Vikes crushed Lake Central 2-0 with scores of 180-167 and 189-164.

Tackett had the high two-game score for the tournament with 474.
