Concordia's defense stifles Lady Vikings

The Huntington North girls’ varsity basketball team couldn’t crack Concordia Lutheran’s defense and fell 63-46 at North Arena on Saturday, Jan. 24.

The Lady Vikings were limited to a dozen field goals on 60 attempts to shoot 20 percent for the game. The Lady Cadets, who sank 26 of 47 shots for 55.3 percent and 10 of 12 freebies for 83.3 percent, led 18-5 after the first quarter and 33-16 at halftime before matching the hosts’ 11 points in the third frame and 19 in the fourth to preserve their 17-point cushion.

Huntington North, 6-10, was paced by Madi Candy, who finished with 14 points. The junior did most of her damage at the foul line, where she made all but one of her 10 attempts to highlight a 21 of 29 effort there by the Lady Vikings overall.

Juniors Sarah Fryman and Ellie Lawson added 11 points apiece to Huntington North’s cause.

Concordia Lutheran got a double-double from DeJour Young, who tallied 24 points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Cadets, 14-6, also got 16 points from Shania Kelly.
