Patrick, Karst, Hacker shooting for two swim sectional titles

Mariah Patrick, Sara Karst and Cassie Hacker will be swimming for two sectional titles apiece and teaming with Kaitlyn Batt to try to win two relay titles in the finals of the Warsaw Girls' Swimming and Diving Sectional on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Patrick, Hacker, Karst and the relay teams earned top six finishes on Thursday, Feb. 4, at the sectional preliminaries, and gained the right to compete for the sectional title and a trip to the state meet.

Only event winners and those meeting state qualifying standards advance to the state meet, to be held Friday, Feb. 13, and Saturday, Feb. 14, at Indianapolis.

Patrick, a junior, earned her trip to the finals by placing third in the 50-yard freestyle, in :27.38, and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, in 1:09.43.

Karst, a freshman, punched her ticket to the finals in 200-yard freestyle, in 2:09.91, and 500-yard freestyle, in 5:55.01.

Her fellow freshman, Hacker, placed sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, in :59.96, and third in the 100-yard breaststroke, in 1:16.37.

Batt, a senior, joined the trio for a sixth place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, in 2:05.93, and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, in 1:50.58.
