The Huntington North High School varsity baseball team posted a six-spot on the board in the first inning and cruised to a 12-1 victory over host Muncie Central in five innings on Tuesday, April 21.

The Vikings, improving to 4-4 overall and 3-0 in the North Central Conference, smacked around Bearcat pitching for 12 safeties, including three by Derek Snyder, to make it easy for pitcher Kory Goodrich to rack up his second win of the season. Goodrich gave up five hits and one earned run, with four strikeouts and one walk.

Thomas Parker and Goodrich each had a pair of hits on the day, and Snyder, Parker, Goodrich, Walker Spahr and Caleb Landrum each knocked in two runs.

The Vikings turned a 6-1 lead after two innings into a 9-1 game with three more runs in the third inning, then closed things out with three more scores in the fifth.

The Vikings opened the game against Muncie Central, 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the NCC, with four straight singles before their first man was retired. Carson Wright, Snyder, Parker and Goodrich all had the safeties and a run was in before Blake Gray hit into a fielder's choice for the first out, and the second run. A fielder's choice by Logan Green plated a third run before Spahr ripped a double to left-center for two more scores. The final run of the frame came in on a Muncie Central error.
