Randle, Abbott lead 4 into wrestling semi-state

Logan Randle at 112 pounds and unbeaten Zach Abbott at 189 pounds earned championship titles at the Peru Wrestling Regional Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 7, and led four Viking grapplers into next week's semi-state.

Jamie Kuehl at 171 pounds and heavyweight Nick Cooper both finished runner-up in their respective classes to also advance to the Woodlan semi-state at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, in Fort Wayne.

Randle, a junior, took out 41-3 Matt Miller of Northwestern in the final to earn his title and improve his own season mark to 34-4.

Abbott, a senior, upped his perfect season mark to 33-0 and claimed his regional title by defeating 36-6 Brett Worden of Peru in their final.

Kuehl, also a senior, fell to 19-1 Spencer Fenner of Eastbrook in their final at 171. Kuehl will take a 26-10 mark into semi-state.

Cooper lost to 43-1 Evan Floyd of Northwestern in the heavyweight final for his runner-up slot and entry to the semi-state. The HNHS sophomore takes a 19-8 mark into the next level.

The top four finishers in each weight class advanced to semi-state.

Other regionals feeding into the Woodlan semi-state are Carroll (Fort Wayne), Goshen and Jay County.
