Frosh has hand in four wins as Lady Vike trackgirls top Kokomo

Freshman Karmen Koch won three individual events and helped with a relay win to lead the Huntington North High School girls' varsity track team to an 83-49 win over host Kokomo on Tuesday, April 28.

Koch won both hurdles events and the high jump and ran a leg on the winning 1,600-meter relay team to pace the Lady Vikings.
The frosh went :17.06 to win the 100-meter hurdles and won the 300-meter hurdles by over two seconds with a time of :47.78. She led a Lady Vikings sweep in the high jump with her winning height of 5-1, and she teamed with Emily Bucher, Charlotte Borland and Jenna Henline to win the 1,600 relay in 4:24.40.

Henline also go a solo win of her own as he took the 400-meter dash in 1:08.11.

Abby Ness won the 800-meter run in 2:41.51 and Lauren Farrell topped the 3,200-meter run with a clocking of 14:55.14. The remaining HNHS win came from the 3,200-meter relay team of Josi Barscz, Larissa Johnson, Farrell and Rachel Moore, which crossed the finish line in 12:25.08 to win by more than 30 seconds.

In addition to the high jump sweep, HNHS had five 1-2 finishes on the day. Elizabeth Allred was runner-up to Henline in the 400, Johnson was second to Ness in the 800, Moore was second to Farrell in the 3,200, Josie Graft was runner-up to Koch in the 100 hurdles and Allie Christian was second to the frosh in the 300 hurdles.

Bucher took second in the 100-meter dash, with Christian third, and Mary Surfus was second in the 1,600-meter run. Sophie Ottinger was second in the pole vault with Sarah Malone third, Lauren Sands was second in the shot put with Amaya Torres third and Sands and Torres switched places in the discus. Henline added third place points in the long jump.
