IWU drops HU to loser's bracket

The Huntington University softball team got dropped to the loser's bracket of the Crossroads League tournament on Thursday, April 30, with a 5-1 loss to Indiana Wesleyan.

The Foresters, 23-24, faced Taylor on Friday in an elimination game.

While both HU and IWU, 46-10, each got nine hits, it was Wesleyan that was able to stack its hits and produce runs. HU's only run of the contest came when Courtney Sliger snuck home on the front end of a double-steal in the fifth inning, but IWU already had a 4-0 lead at that point.

IWU scored a pair of runs in the first inning, repeated the act in the fourth and got an insurance tally in the seventh.

Emily Puterbaugh got the loss for HU, going all seven innings and yielding five runs, with four strikeouts and one walk.

Katie DePew, Hannah Priskorn and Emily O'Leary each finished with two hits for HU.

Emily Hastings had three hits and two runs batted in to lead IWU.
