Sunday, February 8, 2009 8:18 PM
Freshman Cassie Hacker barely missed a trip to the state swimming finals and was the top finisher for Huntington North at the Warsaw Girls Swimming Sectional on Saturday, Feb. 7.
Hacker's time of 1:15.13 placed her .36 seconds behind Columbia City frosh Jenna Bosselman in the 100-yard breaststroke in the finals of that event, with only the winners of each event and those meeting state qualifying times moving on to next week's state swim meet.
Hacker also finished fourth in the 100-yeard freestyle, in :59.95.
Also competing solo for HNHS were junior Mariah Patrick and freshman Sara Karst. Patrick placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, in :27.49 and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, in 1:07.77. Karst was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle, in 5:55.52, and finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle, in 2:09.38.
Those three teamed with senior Kaitlin Batt to place fourth in the 200-yeard freestyle relay, in 1:50.65, and sixth in the 200-yard medley relay, in 2:05.65.
The quartet earned 120 points for HNHS, placing it sixth out of 12 teams in the competition.
