The Huntington North girls’ tennis team opened postseason play with a bang, blanking Bluffton, 5-0, in the first round of the Norwell Sectional on Wednesday, May 20.
Senior Emily Eherenman highlighted the Lady Vikings’ domination with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the third singles match over Madison Meyer.
Senior Kylie Frederick was just a game away from notching a shutout of her own, dispatching Molly Williams, 6-1, 6-0, at first singles, while Ana Eckert, also a senior, capped the Huntington North singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Lauren Stauffer in the second match.
Coach Blake Childs’ squad, 16-3, was given more of a challenge in doubles play, with both matches going three sets. Sarah Fryman and Emily Karst kicked off the first match with a 7-5 win versus Sara Baumgartner and Claudia Williams before falling in the second set, 3-6. The junior duo righted the ship in third set, however, winning 6-2.
The Lady Vikings’ second doubles pairing of senior Maddie Phillips and sophomore Katie Hunt were 4-6 losers in the opening set of their match against Lexi Ramsey and Madison Heller, but bounced back with a gutty 7-6 (7-3) win in the second set before closing things out with a 7-5 decision in the final frame.
