Vike netmen drop opener to Warsaw

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity tennis team fell to visiting Warsaw, 2-3, in its season opener on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

The Vikings, 0-1, picked up their wins at first and second singles. Junior Nick May dispatched Justin Stout in the No. 1 match, 6-1, 6-3, while sophomore Auden Eckert edged David Homme in the second, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Sophomore Matt Karst rounded out singles play for Coach Blake Childs’ squad with a 4-6, 2-6 setback to Ryan Wettschurack.

Huntington North’s No. 1 doubles team of juniors Dane Eherenman and Brent Kreiger lost 4-6, 2-6, to Chris Herendeen and Colton Lind. Junior Garret Smith and freshman Clark Kitchen got blanked in the second match by Andrew Gaujer and Hudson Snyder, 0-6, 0-6, to complete the Vikings’ day.

Huntington North’s junior varsity team also lost, 0-8, to start the year 0-1.
