A singles sweep led the Huntington North High School varsity tennis team to a 3-2 win over host Peru on Thursday, Aug. 20.

The Vikings evened their season mark at 1-1 on the strength of wins by Nick May at first singles, Auden Eckert at second singles and Matt Karst at third singles. None of the Vikings lost more than four games in their matches.

May, a junior, ripped Braden Bates, 6-1, 6-1, and Eckert, a sophomore, took down Carson Ray, 6-2, 6-2. Karst, also a sophomore, dispatched Ethan Hyde, 6-2, 6-1.

The singles sweep was made necessary for the win because Peru won both doubles matches. At first doubles, the team of Dane Eherenman and Brent Kreiger lost to Lucas Eckerly and Kameron Graham, 6-7, 6-8, and at second doubles Garrett Smith and Clark Kitchen pushed to three sets before losing to Ben VanBaalen and S. Smith, 6-4, 0-6, 2-6.
