Combative spikers fall short in comeback try at Northrop

A combative Huntington North High School varsity volleyball team couldn't quite pull off the come-from-behind victory and lost to host Northrop, 2-3, on Thursday, Aug. 27.

The Lady Vikings, 2-3, came back from a 1-2 deficit with a 25-22 fourth game win, but fell in the final set, 11-15. They won the first game 25-22, lost in the second 23-25 and fell in the third, 22-25 before mounting their comeback.

Allyson Mettler was the big stick on offense with 17 kills, and Alexa Hill had 23 assists on the night. Hill and Mettler tied for the ace leadership with a pair apiece.

Mackenzi Cannici had three blocks at the net and Ariene Butler had 28 digs to lead the defense.

The JV Lady Vikes took two close games for the win to improve to 6-3 on the season. They won 25-24 and 25-23.

Rileigh Johnson had a big night for HNHS with a team-leading six kills and 10 digs and she also added a block.

Peyton Butler had 14 assists and Brette Fawcett chipped in with a pair of aces.
