SAU scores early, goes on to down HU soccermen

The Huntington University men’s soccer team gave up a goal to host Spring Arbor University less than a minute into their game on Saturday, Sept. 26, and was forced to play catch-up the rest of the contest, which it went on to lose, 3-0.

The Cougars’ early lead came courtesy of Morris Kamara, who planted a pass from Adam Hunt in the back of the net just 51 ticks into the match. Spring Arbor expanded its advantage on a header by Michael Caccavo off a Cory Swartzendruber corner kick in the 44th minute, giving it a 2-0 cushion at intermission.

Huntington’s conference foe carried its momentum into the second half. The Cougs scored again just two and a half minutes after halftime, getting another goal from Kamara, who was assisted by Hunt and Kevin Veeder.

Spring Arbor’s defense continued to shut out Huntington from there, dropping the Foresters to 5-4-1, 0-1 in the Crossroads League while improving to 6-3-1, 1-0 themselves.

Coach Russ Lawson’s squad logged 11 shots, two of which were on goal, one each by freshman Matheus Louzada and junior Marcos Salinas.

Both kicks were stopped by Cougar goalie Cobi Piper. His Forester counterpart, sophomore Troy Hester, finished with three saves in the losing effort.
