HU netmen dispatch Spring Arbor

The Huntington University men’s tennis team dispatched visiting Spring Arbor University, 7-2, on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The Foresters, 3-6, 3-3 in the Crossroads League, picked up four wins in singles play. Senior Joseph Straznicky led the way, dispatching Jesse DeBoer in the first match, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Ignacio Poncio was a 6-2, 6-1 winner in the second contest versus Nick Romano. The No. 3 bout saw freshman Giovanni Martinez top Vincent McShane, 6-3, 6-3, while the fifth tilt featured a 6-3, 6-2 win by freshman Jokubas Zadeikis over Josh Scott.

In doubles action, Zadeikis and Martinez outlasted McShane and Jacob Byrd, 9-7, in the second match. Straznicky and Poncio logged an 8-4 victory against DeBoer and Romano in the No. 1 tilt while sophomore Vova Kohut and junior Daniel Strom won by that same margin versus Scott and Thomas Hall in the third contest to round out Huntington’s victories.

Kohut fought hard at fourth singles before falling to Byrd, 6-4, 2-6 (10-12). Strom fell 4-6, 1-6 in the sixth match to Sam Head.

Spring Arbor slips to 2-6 in league play.
