HU closes fall dual-meet season with loss to IWU

The Huntington University men's tennis team closed out its fall dual-meet season with a 1-8 loss to visiting Indiana Wesleyan University on Thursday, Oct. 1.

The No. 1 doubles team of Joseph Straznicky and Ignacio Poncio got the lone HU win on the day as the Foresters dropped to 4-8 on the season, 3-5 in Crossroads League play. Straznicky and Poncio defeated Gavin White and Leonard Matthews, 8-6.

Straznicky lost at first singles to Mathews, 1-6, 4-6, and Poncio at second singles was beaten by White, 3-6, 2-6. Giovanni Martinez at third singles fell to Tyler Abbott, 1-6, 2-6; Volodymr Kohut at fourth singles took a 1-6, 1-6 loss from Joel Montgomery; Jokubas Zadeikis at fifth singles was beaten by Austin Christner, 1-6, 3-6; and Daniel Strom at sixth singles fell to Caleb Cottrell, 2-6, 1-6.

Martinez and Zadeikis made it close at second doubles before falling to Abbott and Daniel Smith, 6-8, and Kohut and Strom lost 1-8 to Christner and Andrew Brock at third doubles.
