Grace soccerwomen sink Foresters

A pair of goals in the opening half by host Grace College ended up sinking the Huntington University women’s soccer team, 2-0, on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The Lancers’ first goal came a little over 11 minutes into the game, courtesy of Mallory Rondeau. Grace struck again in the 28th minute, as Jordan Hairgrove planted a pass from Carianne Sobey in the back of the net to give her squad a two-goal cushion that would stick.

The Foresters fired 12 shots for the game, with all but three coming on goal. Abby Schue provided rock-solid goalkeeping for the Lancers, though, stopping all nine shots to send Huntington to 6-6, 0-3 in the Crossroads League.

Grace, 10-0-1, 2-0-1 in league play, finished with 20 shots, 12 of which were on frame. Huntington goalie Toby Carman recorded five saves while allowing the two Lancer goals. The sophomore was relieved by Autumn Demott at the start of the second half. Demott, a freshman, made three stops.

Freshman MaTéa Knispel tallied three shots on goal for the Foresters while senior Becca Grimes provided two.
