The Huntington University men’s soccer team topped Grace College, 2-1, on Saturday, Oct. 3, at King Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, senior Joey Newbery set up freshman Tyler George for his first collegiate goal in the 51st minute. Newbury then turned scorer himself, giving the Foresters a 2-0 advantage just under 20 minutes later. Though the Lancers managed to find the back of the net in the 84th minute, Coach Russ Lawson’s squad was able to hang on for the win and send its fans, watching the game as part of Huntington’s homecoming celebration, away happy.

The victory is the Foresters’ first in the Crossroads League against two defeats.

Huntington, 6-5-1 overall, finished with 15 shots, six of which came on goal. Grace racked up 26 shots, with 11 coming on frame.

Forester keeper James Couchman stopped 10 of those Lancer kicks while allowing their lone goal to pick up the win.

His counterpart across the field, Robbie Barnhill, gave up both Huntington scores and logged four saves for Grace, which falls to 7-4, 2-1 in league play.
