Lady Vike harriers third at NE8 meet

The Huntington North High School girls’ cross country team captured third at the Northeast 8 Conference meet Saturday, Oct. 3, on the IPFW Cross Country Course.

Senior Hannah Stoffel led the Lady Vikings to their bronze finish, crossing the finish line in a season-best 19:03.9 to claim seventh. Sophomore Chloe Scheiber was next for Coach Carrie Boxell’s squad, taking 17th in 20:10.0. Junior Cadee Harmon and senior Marissa Jamison finished back-to-back, the former earning 19th in 20:24.1, a season best, and the latter 20th in 20:26.5. Freshman Alena Miller capped the team’s score at 85, securing 22nd in 20:30.4.

A pair of personal-record times by Kyler Hoopingarner and Jenna Henline rounded out Huntington North’s day. Hoopingarner, a freshman, stopped the timer in 21:33.8, good for 29th, while Henline, a junior, took 32nd in 21:50.0.

East Noble won the meet with a register of 61. DeKalb finished four points behind the Lady Knights, followed by Huntington North, New Haven, 98; Bellmont, 105; Columbia City, 117; Norwell, 148; and Leo, 198.

Bellmont senior Bailey Beery won the race with a clocking of 18:15.8.

Huntington North defeated DeKalb and Bellmont to win the junior varsity race.

The Lady Vikings placed all seven runners in the top 10 and finished with a tally of 22. Sophomore Charlotte Borland took first place, stepping over the end stripe in a personal-record 21:24.5. Sophomore Emma Melcher finished in 21:42.4 to take second among team runners, followed by freshman Macy Lange, fourth, 22:28.8; junior Aliyah Kelsey, seventh, 23:22.5; sophomore Mary Surfus, eighth, 23:41.7; senior Raven Tillett, ninth, 23:53.9 and sophomore Rachel Moore, 10th, 23:56.1.
