Host Indiana Wesleyan University made quick work of the Huntington University men's tennis team in quarterfinal action of the Crossroads League men's tennis tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with a 7-2 victory.
Ignacio Poncio had a hand in both Forester wins on the day. He beat Gavin White, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 2 singles, and he teamed up with Joseph Straznicky for an 8-4 win over Leonard Mathews and Brandon Dubuque at first doubles.
The Foresters dropped to 4-9 on the season.
In singles, Straznicky lost at No. 1 to Dubuque, 3-6, 2-6; Giovanni Martinez at third lost, 4-6, 3-6, to Mathews; Vova Kohut at fourth fell to Joel Montgomery, 0-6, 3-6; Jokubas Zadeikis at fifth lost to Tyler Abbott, 1-6, 1-6; and Daniel Strom at No. 6 was blanked, 0-6, 0-6, by Austin Christner.
In doubles, Martinez and Zadeikis were 2-8 losers at No. 2 to Abbott and Montgomery, and Kohut and Strom lost at third doubles, 0-8, to Christner and White.
