Forester women again cut down bigger trees

The Huntington University women's basketball team knocked off its second higher-ranked team of the week with a solid 68-54 win over host No. 11 Purdue University-Calumet on Tuesday,  Nov. 10.

The Foresters, 17th-ranked themselves, upped their season mark to 4-0 with solid defense over a team which had averaged 78 points a game for its first three games of the season.

The Foresters hits five of their first seven shots right out of the gate for a quick 10-point advantage, and went into halftime with a 36-28 lead. They upped the margin to 17 points four minutes into the second half when they held the Peregrines scoreless for that stretch to start the third quarter, and they started the fourth quarter with a 56-37 margin.

Miranda Palmer led the way for HU with 22 points, seven assists and six steals, all game-highs. Amelia Recker added to the mix with 19 points, Kelsey Hubble had 11 and Hailey Krewald had seven.

Cassidy Deno had 20 points to pace Purdue.

Recker hit 7 of 11 field goal attempts to lead the Foresters to a solid 26 of 56, 46.4 percent performance for the game. HU also hit 11 of 12 from the free-throw line for 91.7 percent.

Jaclene Bonnema was the top rebounder for HU with a game-high 13 caroms, and Recker came up with eighth although PUC won the battle of the boards, 37-35.
