Six from HU among list of all-conference volleyball honorees

Six members of the Huntington University volleyball team were among the list of all-conference honorees as announced by the Crossroads League on Monday, Nov. 16.

Topping the list for Huntington was a pair of sophomores. Josie Beaver, a second-teamer and member of the all-freshmen team last season, earned first team accolades this year. The 5-10 opposite finished the year with a team-best 282 kills to average 2.82 kills per set, which ranks her seventh among her league peers. The Huntington native posted a hitting percentage of .220, the sixth best in the conference, and tallied 80 blocks for the Foresters.

After earning second team and all-freshmen team honors last season, Kate Cobb joins Beaver as a first team pick this season. The 5-6 defensive specialist from Elkhart accumulated a team-high 572 digs to finish second in the Crossroads League in digs per set with 5.55. She finished the year with 434 receptions and only 17 errors for a passing accuracy of .961. She also recorded 19 aces and a .935 serving percentage.

Freshman Ashli Drewes was one of six rookies named to the all-freshmen team. The 6-2 middle blocker collected 90 blocks on the year for an average of .96 blocks per set, the third best in the league. The New Buffalo native also tallied 121 kills and a .111 hitting percentage.

Senior Kelsey Kruse saved her best for last and for her efforts earned honorable mention praises. Kruse, a 5-9 outside hitter, totaled 128 kills on the season for an average of 1.54 kills per set. The Auburn native also registered 26 blocks.

Senior Katie DePew joined her classmate on the honorable mention all-conference team. The 5-6 defensive specialist collected 224 digs this season to average 2.24 digs per set. She also posted a serving a percentage of .962 and boasted a reception percentage of .949, having committed just 20 errors in 392 total receptions.

Rounding out the list of honorees was junior Audrey Mallers. A 5-9 outside hitter, Mallers finished second on the team in kills with 244, digs with 226 and receptions with 406 to earn honorable mention accolades. The Fort Wayne native led the team in aces with 27 and collected 36 blocks.

As a team, the Foresters, 8-10 in league play, 13-15 overall, finished the year with 242 blocks to lead the league in blocks per set, with 2.4.
