HU women's hoop team to hold 'PinkOut' Feb. 13 to honor cancer survivors

The Huntington University women's basketball team will host a "Pink Out" on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. at the University's Merillat Physical Education and Recreation Complex.

The event will honor and celebrate breast cancer survivors during halftime of the Huntington University vs. Spring Arbor University women's basketball game.

"Pink Out" is a nationwide initiative of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association to support breast cancer research and awareness programs.

HU's "Pink Out" will become an annual women's basketball event to raise awareness and resources to advance breast cancer education and research. Proceeds from ticket donations, T-shirt sales and "pink" popcorn sales will benefit the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.
In lieu of ticket sales, game-day admission will be exclusively on a donation basis.

Breast cancer survivors will be honored guests for the game and will be admitted without charge. At the start of halftime, survivors will be escorted onto the floor for special recognition and presented with a complimentary gift provided by the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.

"We encourage you to bring family, friends and breast cancer survivors on Saturday, February 13, as we ‘paint the gym pink' (wear pink), honor survivors and raise funds to find a cure," says Lori Culler, HU women's basketball head coach.

To assist with planning for the halftime festivities, breast cancer survivors are asked to register in advance by visiting the HU "Pink Out" Web site at www.huntington.edu/ath letics/wbasketball/pink out/default.htm.

Local businesses and area residents are invited to serve as "Pink Out" sponsors, which provides a myriad of year-long corporate marketing benefits at the Merillat Complex and underwrites scholarship support for HU's women's basketball program.
