Senior duo leads Viking swimmers over Manchester

Seniors Jacob Koons and Zane Cozad each won a pair of events and swam legs on winning relay teams to lead the Huntington North High School boys' swim team to a 102-49 win over host Manchester on Thursday, Jan. 28.

The Vikings, back to .500 at 8-8 on the season, got victories in all but one event contested. Aidan Hinesley, Cody Barton and Keegan Mautz each also picked up individual wins.

Koons got the Vikings first individual win of the night by beating teammate Gunnar Wibel to the wall in 2:31.29 as the only two racers in the 200-yard individual medley. He later came back to claim the 100-yard freestyle in :57.13, with Hinesley picking up third in the race in 1:03.73.

Cozad was top shelf in the 100-yard butterfly, in 1:05.46, with Mautz placing second, and he led a three-man sweep in the 100-yard backstroke, winning in 1:04.80, with Barton second and Wibel third.

Hinesley won the 50-yard freestyle, in :28.24, with Conner Mason placing second; Barton won the 500-yard freestyle, in 5:54.30, with Nathan Park placing third; and Mautz took the 100-yard breaststroke, in 1:19.53, with Park placing second.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Hinesley, Barton, Koons and Mason won its race in 2:01.98. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Cozad, Mautz, Hinesley and Koons won its race in 1:50.84 and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Barton, Wibel, Mason and Park won that event in 4:07.73.

Mason added a third for HNHS in the 200-yard freestyle, in 2:24.53.
