The Huntington University women’s tennis team fell to host Aquinas College, 1-8, on Saturday, Feb. 6, in the first match of its spring schedule.
Freshman Alexis Allen was the Foresters’ lone winner, defeating MJ Bothma, 6-4, 6-2, at third singles.
Making her college debut, rookie Kathleen Morrical forced a super tiebreaker at No. 6 singles before being outlasted by Kasey Jacobs, 7-5, 4-6 (5-10).
Sophomore Erin Van Kampen lost at fifth singles to Brittany Mayer, 3-6, 3-6, while freshman Haley Kuppler was defeated by Martina Devetak, 3-6, 2-6, at second singles. Sophomore Constanze Golz fell at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 0-6, to Lea Jansen and junior Kerrie Ecker suffered an 0-6, 2-6 setback to Anna Musienko in the fourth match.
In doubles action, Allen and Van Kampen came up short to Bothma and Musienko in the second contest, 6-8. Golz and Kuppler were downed by Jansen and Devetak, 2-8, at No. 1 doubles while Ecker and Amanda Willis got blanked by Mayer and Jacobs in the third tilt, 0-8.
Huntington falls to 10-5 on the season.
