Puterbaugh, Sheets slam door on USF in twinbill sweep

Emily Puterbaugh and Ariel Sheets allowed only one run on the day to lead the Huntington University softball team to a twinbill sweep of host University of Saint Francis, 5-1, and 6-0, on Tuesday, April 26.

Puterbaugh handcuffed the Cougars on five hits in the opener, allowing the only USF run of the day, before Sheets gave up only six hits, with no runs as HU improved to 30-14 overall, 23-9 in Crossroads League play.

Former Huntington North star Alyssa Hiple went 3 for 3 at the plate with a run batted in in the opener, and Courtney Sliger and Natalie McGuire each had two hits and an RBI.

The Foresters scored two runs in the second inning and one in the third, fourth and sixth innings.

The Foresters gave Sheets the only run she would need in the second inning, then scored another solo run in the third before putting up a four-spot in the sixth.

Katelyn Shafer and Natalie McGuire each had two hits for HU, with both of Shafer's being doubles. McGuire knocked in a pair and scored twice.
