Senior Beerbower sparks big HU offense in 88-62 pasting of Bethel

Courtney Beerbower sparked a big first half and the Huntington University women's basketball team put a hurt on visiting Bethel, 88-62, on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Beerbower, a senior, scored on a put-back and two transition layups in the first few minutes of the contest as HU took a 14-0 lead. After Bethel cut the margin to 19-11 at the 12:22 mark, the Foresters put on an offensive clinic in the remainder of the half, including hitting 6 of 10 from 3-point range, to take a 51-22 lead into halftime.

Bethel stormed out of the lockerroom with two threes to start the second half, but the Foresters never let the Pilots get closer than 26 the rest of the way to garner their 17th win against seven loss on the season.

Sarah Miller paced the HU scoring with 19 points. Jenna Donaldson added 16, including hitting 6 of 7 from the floor, Beerbower finished with 14 and Lauren Meese had 10.

The Foresters hit 33 of 57 field goal attempts for 57.9 percent on the afternoon, including 9 of 17 from 3-point land for 52.9.

Bethel, which is now 18-9, hit 24 of 55 field goal attempts for 43.6 percent. The Pilots were led by Bekah Basinger with 12 points.

Not only were the Foresters hot, but they were sharing the ball big-time, coming up with a season best 23 assists. Meese had a team-leading five, Miller had four and Donaldson, Ryleigh Carr and Brittney Bateman had three each.

Meese also led the HU rebounding efforts with eight.

HU travels to Goshen Wednesday evening, Feb. 10
