Pair of early runs seals Lady Vikes' fate

A pair of runs in the first inning ended up being all host DeKalb needed to defeat the Huntington North High School varsity softball team, sticking the Lady Vikings with a 2-1 loss on Wednesday, May 18.

Even though the Lady Vikings’ pitcher, Hannah Middlebrooks, shut out the Lady Barons after their offensive spurt in the opening frame, she and her teammates couldn’t get going at the plate.

Middlebrooks plated fellow junior Aubrie Eckert with a single in the fourth inning, but that was all the scoring Coach Darci Brown’s squad, 12-7, could muster.

Middlebrooks finished with two of Huntington North’s seven base pokes. Senior Alexa Hill logged a pair of hits as well.

Taking the loss in the circle, Middlebrooks permitted five base pokes and the two earned runs in six innings. She also tallied three walks and as many strikeouts.

DeKalb improves to 17-3.
